Buzz off Butterflies! Anxiety and Autism” by Rubina Mangat, BCBA, RCC, NCC

Date: Friday April 13, 2018

Time: 10am-12noon

Place: Studio, #301 – 3701 East Hastings, Burnaby BC

Topic: Buzz off butterflies! A closer look at what Anxiety is, how it impacts children with Autism and the various approaches to help: through ABA, 1-1 counselling and group treatment.

Anxiety has found its way as a mainstream word in popular culture, to explain a degree of emotions: worried, nervous, stressed out, panicked, excited and afraid. Though there are benefits in having this term more readily used and accepted in society, it also creates the perfect environment for the clinical term to be misunderstood, misused and mistreated.

In our discussion Rubina will go over the following:

-“I’m pretty sure I know what anxiety is Rubina. You can skip this part!”… But do you really?

-Not everything is as it seems! Just like Autism, Anxiety can be on a spectrum and experienced differently by different children.

-I know it can feel overwhelming sorting through the resources and finding the right approach for your child, let’s figure it out together!
