Description

Through the amazing talent of our “Au-Stars”, Rock for Autism showcases what adults with autism can achieve. The event will raise awareness of the unique benefits adults with autism can bring to employment opportunities and find ways to create WIN-WIN situations for both our Au-some adults but also the business community currently looking to fill job roles.

Through year-round advocacy and connecting with the community, we hope to annually increase the popularity of Rock for Autism, bringing in more "Au-Star" musicians and raising more funds. All the funds raised through Rock for Autism will help raise AWARENESS and provide training opportunities for organizations looking to hire individuals with autism and other intellectual disabilities.

Rock for Autism began in 2017 with the Picard Family, Tammy Jonas and the generosity of the Paddlewheeler Pub in New Westminster.  The event was inspired by Luc Picard, a young adult with autism whose musical ability had been wowing crowds at the Paddlewheeler each week during their Open Mic sessions. With a desire to bring together the community and showcase more musicians with autism, Tammy and the Paddlewheeler Pub hosted the first Rock for Autism in 2017 with 3 talented "Au-Stars" Luc, Haden and Marshall and raised over $2,000 for AutismBC.

With musical resources, generously donated by Steve Lindsay from Lindsay Music Studio, Erron Sweeney and many more professional musicians it wasn’t long before planning began for the 2nd Annual Rock for Autism. With incredible support we’re PUMPED about growing this event and excited to bring it to the Port Moody community at Rocky Point Park on Fathers Day 2018.

Rock for Autism 2 will again feature the talented "Au-Stars"; Luc, Haden and Marshall plus many more incredible musicians from across the city. Funds raised from this year’s event, will be donated to AutismBC and fund more training for businesses and organizations looking for training with the view of employing adults with autism.
