Small Talk: A Crash Course in Social Communication & Conversation with Crystal-Lee Clark, MA, BCBA

The world of social communication and social skills can be a confusing place for both kids and practitioners! This talk aims to break down and demystify the concept of social communication and how it relates to social goals for kids on the spectrum. As well as to delve into one of the biggest social skills areas: conversation skills. Walk away with ideas for social communication goals, an understanding of the building blocks of conversation skills, and some simple, everyday ways to practice conversation skills.

About the Speaker: Crystal-Lee Clark, MA., BCBA

Crystal-Lee has worked with individuals with autism in the lower mainland since 2004 and received her Master’s Degree in Autism Studies at the University of Kent in Canterbury in 2012. She became a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) in 2013 after completing her Behaviour Analyst Certification Board coursework at Pennsylvania State University. She began her Behaviour Analyst practice at Able Developmental clinic in 2013 and in 2016 launched her own behaviour consultation group, Celerate Behaviour Innovations. She also serves as a senior behaviour consultant at East Van Behavior Analysis. Crystal-Lee loves to work with individuals of all ages, believing that learning and skill acquisition are a continuous journey. Her practice centers on using Applied Behaviour Analysis as a science and lens to create therapies, environments, and supports that will facilitate meaningful growth and accessible learning for all of her clients and their families. She also has a special interest in social skills and social communication, and continues to facilitate social groups in Vancouver and Richmond.
